Superintendent Devin Padavil addresses current student concerns.

I'm losing you and I'm here with this new superintendent doctor Pattonville 11th grade and what are you planning on doing after high school game are free. A University art design for video games you know okay A little graphic design here on the side there to fry as well you must have an eye for making things look nice yeah I sent the perfect thing what are you involved in here at Taylor High School I'm in the yearbook currently right now and next year I'm going to be in graphic design 3 witches called prop I forgot the name of it is I'm sorry, it sounds like you're involved in a lot of stuff that's going to help you with what you want to do after high school when you get to be involved in things that are really like what you want to do so that's what we're trying to do in Taylor ISD for every student so I'm glad the thing is getting it so I see you got some questions for me that you wanted to ask you know this has been an unusual year what will next be look like for original prom graduation and vacuumed vaccine so this is this has been an unusual year and the big thing for us is that as we finish out this year a lot of the safety protocols we put in place we just have to keep them going and the number one reason for that is until I I see that every staff member every teacher and even our students and parents have access to a vaccine then I can't guarantee everyone's safety and so for us is the school district you want to make sure people are still doing social distancing wearing masks and doing all the things necessary to protect other people you'll see you can already see it's getting looser and looser as we go on through the year we are going to get back to normal soon but it's really important that we really hold tight to the things that are most important so we protect other people safety but this year we're going to do a prom for seniors we're going to have graduation we're going to try to bring back all the special events at make High School worth it our students and it's kind of a balancing act right we want to have the memorable enjoyable experience for students and staff and at the same time keep everybody safe but I know our team is going to be up to the challenge you have any friends what are the pep rallies and it's inside and you know a lot of times we can move things outside it's a lot safer because the open-air and all that but it is our expectation that as much as possible the next school year which will be your senior year feels as normal as possible for everybody because we know that as soon as a lot of the normal routines and I'm just talked about the experience not necessarily the classroom learning when does normal routines come back and spoons. We'll be back in our buildings they learn at higher levels it's hard to learn when you're back and forth between online and in-person do you have that experience yourself yes I did the first six weeks actually it was kind of hard and my grades kind of fell down but I got them back up coming back to school so I'll see that because we have done everything possible to keep our students and our staff safe in fact in our experience we have not seen that students are or staff members are being diagnosed with covid-19 somebody at school it's usually something outside of school I get the person diagnosed we haven't seen spread within our schools and so as much as possible we want to encourage our families to come back to school have their students in classrooms if they feel safe because we know that we can protect them here we have so many safety protocols the custodial staff is doing such an incredible job of making sure our buildings are clean and sanitize that we feel like when our students are ready to come back to ready to receive him cuz we want to make sure they learn I'm moving out the person I'm into what do you want at about about a killer ID as in goals or teachers voices is going to look like and what next year look like we are doing a lot of planning and as far as making sure that the quality of learning that you have in every student here has is really the best possible learning I want you to have the kind of student experience that I would back to my own son you have to look a lot like him to be honest and how we do that is a couple of things first we're going to eat our teachers are going to see a lot of invitations to have teacher voice and what that means is I want teachers at the able to really help to find what is learning look like in our schools what does the student experience hair look like and what can be better about our schools a lot of times when you walked out the building you see these all signs and it talks about education no excellent but something interesting is if I go to 10 different students here and I say what is excellent mean to you I'll probably get ten different definition until one of the things we need to do that three important is we need to Define to Taylor SD what is excellent looks like look like and then once we know it excellent looks like and we know where we are what do we need to do to get from here to there cuz every single day were either getting better or we're getting worse is no such thing as staying the same so always am going to get where we want to be already moving at the question number 3 what is important for our school for the rest of this year the rest of this year for the rest of this year probably the most important thing that we do is we make sure that our students are learning we cannot have the experience of covid-19 what they needed to learn to go on to the next grade level and so we know that like you know you talked about your experience of being a remote learner right so there are probably some things as well as hard as you work in school there are probably some things you may have missed or you may not have gotten compared to a normal school year normal school year so now in the next two and a half months of school one of the most important things for us is to make sure we know is every student learning with a to to be successful next year and if not how do we know and what are we going to do about it cuz if we can do about something about it now we can make next year a better year for that student concerning the actually start as I know this talk about STAAR test and do the first 6 weeks and that winter storm and people falling behind how would I look like for this year so that's a great question so the state of Texas is still requiring us to give the STAAR test for but that is still something that our schools will have to do we're going to do everything possible to help our students be successful in as long as the state still requires it we we we are obligated to make sure every student takes we were going to do everything possible to make sure you and every other kid here is successful thank you mr. panda
