Academic Decathlon Earns Silver

Taylor High School Academic Decathlon

State Competition

March 8-10, 2019

The Taylor High School Academic Decathlon team competed in the State Academic Decathlon competition in Frisco the first weekend of Spring Break and returned home as the State Small School Silver Medal Team. In addition, the team won the Silver Medal in the Super Quiz Oral Relay competition.

 Winners in the individual categories include:

Speech – Varsity Silver Medal, Emma Chapman: Varsity Bronze, Nick Nardecchia

Interview – Scholastic Gold Medal with a perfect score, Nicole Nyberg; Varsity Gold Medal, Emma Chapman; Varsity Bronze Medal, Nick Nardecchia and Grace Bentley(tie)

Essay – Honors Gold Medal, Josh Farley; Honors Bronze Medal, Rachel Stabeno; Scholastic Gold Medal, Lexie Whitworth; Varsity Gold Medal, Nick Nardecchia 

The Taylor team swept all of the gold medals in the Essay competition.

Art – Honors Gold Medal, Valerie Ferguson and Rachel Stabeno (tie); Honors Bronze Medal, Josh Farley; Scholastic Gold Medal, Lexie Whitworth; Scholastic Silver Medal, Nicole Nyberg; Varsity Bronze Medal, Emma Chapman

The Taylor team won five of the nine medals awarded in Art.

Science –Scholastic Silver Medal, Lexie Whitworth; Varsity Bronze Medal, Grace Bentley

Social Science – Honors Silver Medal, Valerie Ferguson; Varsity Bronze Medal, Grace Bentley

Music – Honors Bronze Medal, Rachel Stabeno, Scholastic Silver Medal, Lexie Whitworth; Varsity Silver Medal, Emma Chapman; Varsity Bronze Medal, Grace Bentley

Language and Literature – Scholastic Bronze Medal, Lexie Whitworth; Varsity Bronze Medal, Grace Bentley

Overall winners  - Scholastic Silver Medal - Lexie Whitworth, who will receive an additional $2500 in scholarship money.

Varsity Bronze Medal – Grace Bentley, who will receive an additional $1500 in scholarship money.

 Honors 4th Place – Rachel Stabeno, who will receive an additional $1000 in scholarship money.

 Varsity 4th Place – Nick Nardecchia, who will also receive an additional $1000 in scholarship money.

Varsity 5th Place – Emma Chapman, who will receive an additional $750 in scholarship money.

Overall, the team amassed 38,860.8 points over this year’s curriculum, “The 60s.”  In addition, each team member will receive $800 in scholarship money. Team members are:
